Best Actor – Christoph Waltz, “Inglourious Basterds” (United States)

Best Actress – Charlotte Gainsbourg, “Antichrist” (Denmark)

Best Screenplay – Feng Mei, “Spring Fever” (China)

Camera d’Or (for debut film) – “Samson and Delilah,” by Warwick Thornton (Australia)

Best short film – “Arena,” by Joao Salaviza (Portugal)

 CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 2009 WINNERSAwards presented Sunday at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival, chosen by a jury headed by French Actress Isabelle Huppert.

Filipino director Brillante Mendoza bagged the best director award at the Cannes film festival 2009 for his movie “Kinatay.”

Mendoza bested the likes of Quentin Tarantino and Ang Lee in the said category. Kinatay traces 24 hours in the day of trainee policeman, Peping, joins his friend on a mission to earn some cash but regrets his decision as events turn sour.

“This is not just entertainment, these kinds of stories are real,” Mendoza reportedly said about his movie at Cannes 2009.
