CEILING INSPIRATION

Posted by: baterya In: DESIGN

It is always nice to see creative designs of ceilings.  It is always nice to see playful movement of curves and lines, recessed and drop ceilings, and also colors and lighting.  Having a beautiful and well designed ceilings always gives the viewer the impression of excitement, delightment (meron bang ganitong word – hahahaha) and astonishment.  I being an architect always have these impressions whenever I see good ceiling designs.  Below are some ceilings I saw from various structures.  Hope they could give you a help on designing playful and aestethical ceilings.

This ceiling was taken from Shell Gas Station in the North Expressway.  It not playful as it seem but if take look at it you will feel its beauty because of its height.  The playing of levels of ceiling is clearly defined.  The variety of texture gives the reason to have one color for all ceiling.  There are areas where there are high glossy ceiling that gives the area more light because of the reflection it gives.  Simple as it seems but if look at it carefully there are more details to it.

Image above was taken in the male toilet of another gas station in the north expressway.  If I am not mistaken, it is somewhere Lakeshore.  Playful curves and lines plus the addition of recessed and drop ceiling.  Drop ceilings were placed only to accommodate the lighting.  In addition to the ceiling please take note also of the design in the placement of the urinal plus the layout of the tiles.  Playful and exciting.

Here is a ceiling that you will see in the almost end of cavite.  This is from the new Santa Ana Race Track.  Yup the old race track is transferred to Cavite.  You have to pass General Trias and Trece Marteres before you could get there but the place is good and windy.  Another good ceiling with playful lines and curves recessed and drop ceilings.  If you will notice the difference of finishes in the ceiling that makes it more interesting plus the use of cove lightings for more dramatic effect.

Images above and below are great examples of a wonderful ceiling.  You will see variety of heights, finishes and lines and curves.  With these type of ceiling, your eyes will not only be fixed in one position but will turned around and wander in every points of it.

SIDE THOUGHTS

  • “A polka-dot has the form of the sun, which is a symbol of the energy of the whole world and our living life, and also the form of the moon, which is calm. Round, soft, colourful, senseless and unknowing. Polka-dots can’t stay alone; like the communicative life of people, two or three polka-dots become movement… Polka-dots are a way to infinity.” ~ Yayoi Kusama

  • Mobile Phone runs on Coke -  Designer Daizi Zheng has designed an eco friendly phone for Nokia, which runs on Coca-Cola drinks. Yes, its fuel cells generates electricity from carbohydrates (sugar) in the Coke and it can run on any sugary water, not just Coke.

  • Our tumble dryer at home was not working since last week and we have to dry our clothes manually, meaning letting it dry under the sun but what if it is not a sunny day? It takes time without using a dryer, so I think we need to find a replacement soon and I think we need to find the Cheapest Tumble Dryer because we are on a tight budget.
