PHILCONSTRUCT 2009 EXPERIENCE PART 1

I was able to visit the recent 19th PhilConsruct or the 19th Philippine International Construction Equipment and Building Materials Exhibition last November 12-15, 2009 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. Highlights of the event are the Estilo de Via VI which is a showcase of 217 entries from top International design Competition of the Philippines; Technoforum 2009 which is a lineup of special seminars tracking various relevant topics such as eco-friendly solutions to construction, equipment management, and many more; Construction Industry Dialogue which is an exclusive discussion with the top-decision makers on the industry’s latest trends, news and issues; and Exhibits of various equipment and building materials for the industry of construction.

The exhibit was filled with old and new building materials from different companies, some have new updates on their products and some have their usual already known products. For me, my main purpose in going here are to find new building materials suited for my work in a real estate industry and to find exciting building materials that I can use for my future personal projects. Below are list of the interesting materials I found on the exhibit.

Centrotec’s Artificial Tatch – It is a material that looks lika a natural tatch roofing. It has the following advantage; nostalgic appearance providing comfort, charm and character; minimal maintenance with no worries on product degradation due to wear, weather and insects; it is easy and simple and simply easy to install with easily replacement shingles; and recyclable materials are used.

Heres is a comparison of Art Tatch with Natural Tatch:

1. Art Tatch is fire proof, UV resistant and does not fade. While natural tatch is not fire rated which means highly flammable, highly susceptible to rot and decay, and weathers to dull gray, brown and black.

2. Art Tatch does not attract insects, rodents or birds. While natural tatch is highly susceptible to infestation of vermin, insects and birds. It may require mesh nets to restrict birds or animal damage.

3. Art Tatch passes the wind tunnel test at 250 km/h. While natural tatch have not been tested or approved to any standard.

4. Art Tatch does not require maintenance while natural tatch requires regular maintenance and opportunity costs incurred.

5. Art Tatch is readily available, can be stocked for replacements where necessary and is non toxic. While natural tatch has difficulty in supply and distribution; it is grown in different parts of the region; problems include shipping and storing; fumigation and fire retardant treatment may be required.

6. Installation of Art Tatch requires very basic roofing skills while natural tatch needs a specialized craft often requiring skilled labourers and extensive travel for installers.

Alhtough cost more, long term benefits and cost saving will more than compensate for initial investment which inlucde not necessary to change tatch every 2-3 years compare with the natural ones; ten year warranty is given for the Art Tatch covering UV resistance and fire hazard; and no down time for villas/bungalows required when compared with replacing of natural tatch.

Here is a note given by Architect Francisco “Bobby” Manosa – “When the Centrotect Art Tacth product was introduced to me in the Philippines a few years ago, I was very excited at the prospect of using the traditional Filipino tatched roof with the 21st century technology. This has enabled us to incorporate sustainable tatched roofing designs that would have otherwise succumb to the natural elements of weather deterioration and fire.”  Visit them at www.centrotec.com.sg

The Lufata Metal Doors which is the most sought-after steel door known for its premium quality and sophisticated designs. You will have diffent perspective when steel doors are being talked about.

Aquaframe – A living picture. It is a wall mounted aquarium for live tropical fish that hangs like a picture frame. The low-maintenance aquarium comes complete with built-in filtration, air pump and lighting. The unique frame deisgn is space saving and easy to maintain. Ideal for home and office. All you need to do is hang, add water, add fish, and the living picture. Visit www.adproducts.net

The Veneciano Architectural Skins – They are custom made finishes that replaces the look of patinated metal, wood, foliage, minerals, stones and more. It offers a rich variety of colors to suit your design requirements. The final outcome results in a dramatic and impressive look that will be unique in every project.  Excitement comes in the first minutes of the installation, where the designer and the client explore options – “what if we do this, what if we do that?” You can literally see the project evolvingin the first hour of installation, with excitement in the anticipation of the final outcome which is slowly developing before your eyes.

Each Venecio Architectural Skin is approximately 40″ x 40″ (est. 1 sqm.) and each pattern can be conveniently divided into groups of 2″, 4″,5″, 8″, 10″, 20″ with negligible waste. On all products there will always be limitations, this skin is a paper-based wall cladding and to be used only in interior walls. They may not be used on exterior walls, interior walls with direct contact to heat and water, and walls where wall paper would not be recommended to be installed because of its use.

Looking for cool entrance door is very hard to find. If I mentioned above about sophisticated steel doors, here is a wooden door that you would love and they are from Two heads. if you want your entrance door to look like more of a zen type or asian or tropical then you might want to check them out. Visit www.twoheadsdesign.biz

Here is another architectural skin this time it is organic weaving patterns or natural laminated panels.  This is an Architectural building material that could make your interior more local, ethnic, and asian. They are distributed by HM Trading.  Check out the whole gallery of the Philconstruct 2009

SIDE THOUGHTS

  • Love isn’t a fairytale, it isn’t perfect, and it doesn’t always come easy. But it is something that we should hold on to for the rest of our lives, because it’s the only thing that’s worth fighting for.

  • Hero: someone we admire. Someone we look up to. Someone who gives us hope. Not a myth, or an icon, or a legend- someone solid, genuine and real. An ordinary person who does extraordinary things. A hero picks us up when we are down. Believes in us before we believe in ourselves. Inspires us to expand and embrace what’s possible. Helps us realize that we can be heroes, too - Kobi Yamada

  • Devil’s Pool - a small lagoon, enclosed by rocks, on the edge of one of the biggest, most beautiful waterfalls in the world, Victoria Falls. Set on Livingstone Island, at a height of 103 meters, Devil’s Pool is definitely one of the most surreal locations on Earth

  • Enchanted Well or Poco Encantado.  Located in Chapada Diamantina National Park in Brazil.  - This giant sunken pool is 120 feet deep and the water is so transparent the rocks and ancient tree trunks are visible on the bottom. Access to this pond is highly controlled for environmental protection of its rare and delicate ecosystem.

  • I don’t believe in fate or destiny. I believe in various degrees of hatred, paranoia, and abandonment. However much of that gets heaped upon you doesn’t matter - it’s only a matter of how much you can take and what it does to you — Henry Rollins
