WHAT IS TUSCAN ARCHITECTURE?
filed in DESIGN on Oct.27, 2009

I was asked to do a design facade with a tuscan architecture style. I know Tuscan is similar to Italian and Mediterranean architecture but what really is its character to be really called Tuscan Architecture. Well here is what I found out?
The Tuscan architecture may be described as presenting the image of simple grandeur. It involves a brilliant conglomeration of the classical element of the Old World Europe along with the modern architectures. It is of the Italian origin, it is an exalted and elegant decorative style, which tends to dominate many villas and residences. It brings a sense of Old-World charm and mystique to indoor and outdoor aspects of your home.

Tuscan architecture normally features tall, narrow wood-framed windows along with the use of window shutters. Many Tuscan style homes also have an enclosed courtyard. Most of the Tuscan style homes have a stucco exterior, and a large number also include some stone.

Ceilings are textured richly. Stenciled borders can be found along the ceilings. Paneled or vaulted ceilings and wooden beams are a typical choice in decor as it creates pure Tuscany architectural framework.
The beauty of architecture Tuscan style comes from the typical custom crafted natural stone. This includes limestone, travertine and marble. Terracotta floor and roof tiles are often used to give the antique feel. Also mostly amazing mosaic art for flooring are used with the use of mixed materials like glass, stone, and tiles. They can also be terrazo floors from polished Marble Chips, stucco and crushed stone.
As for the color, Tuscan architecture uses the bright colors in a palette that favors the intensity and warm shades, are a feature, always seeking to use the color for the benefit of the environment. Also, the brightness of colors like golden brown tones are added, symbolizing the importance of land in search of harmony.

As for the idea of a Tuscan Landscape, it is usually compose of the following: Tile roof.. Wrought iron… front door entrance Walls covered with vines.. Crumbling stone walls that outline patios and walkways.. Beautiful travertine… cobblestone driveways… Brick or stone set garden paving.. Lavender, rosemary and sage can be found surrounding a Tuscan style home with the addition of old lemon pots and antique jars.
They key to a tuscan is this : The use of rocks and stones, as well as elements with a clear relationship with the land, such as bricks and clay, are often mixed with wood.

The Tuscan architecture may be described as presenting the image of simple grandeur. Strength and power have been considered as the sole guides on which the Etruscan architect founded his principles; but if force, security, and the means of defence, were originally his only objects, these soon gave place to a higher sentiment, combining nobleness with strength.
