OLDIES : DON’T BE LEFT OUT
Bayan is inviting your grandfather (Lolo) and grandmother (Lola) for a free lecture on how to use the Internet. They will teach them how to use the Internet, how to create an E-mail account, and how to create a Facebook account. In addition to these, they could learn how to catch back episodes of their favorite teleseryes from ABS-CBN using I WanTV. This will be on April 25, 2010 from 9 AM to 5 PM at Xavierville I Clubhouse. Before, my mother (who happens to be grandmother as well) does not care about the computer and how would it benefit her not until her friends from high school introduce her to use e-mail, internet messengers, and yahoo groups. She would tell stories of mails she received and people she talks to and you could see excitement on how see tells how she stumbled to old friends which she does not have communication with for a long time. Then there comes Facebook which I think most elders are addicted to because of the famous Farmville. Now, my mother could stay for almost a day just doing somethings in Facebook. If I am not mistaken she plays Farmville and Fishville with 2 to 3 different accounts (addict – LOL). She now has communication and updates on long lost friends and relatives. They could now share stories, photos, insights, and even day to day lives. That is the power of Social Networks, it breaks the barrier of distance and makes everyone as if in one place. Aside from these, she now can do little searches over the search engines. If she wants to know anything, she would just do some researching and after you know it, she will have something to say about it.
Yesterday, my father was looking for information for a certain attorney and he wants verification if he is really still an attorney or he as already disbarred just like what some are telling him. My mother was getting irate because she was playing Farmville at that moment when my father was asking to search information on that guy. Luckily, my father got what he needed and my mother continued to play.
That is the beauty of the internet, information are already in front of your face. You do not have to go to institutions or libraries to get the information you wanted. Social Networks have made places even the farthest accessible. It made communication between persons interactive and fun. In short, Internet was made for sharing. Internet is for everyone. Age does not count in cyberspace, so learn it and use it. Like anything else, all can be learn with a constant use and practice of it. So for those persons hesitant to use the internet because its so complicated, well you are just thinking of it that way but constant use of it will get you the ease and comfort of using it. And when that time comes, you will know the importance of it. The Internet is now a part of it so live with it (LOL).
Oh! By the way before I forgot you could bring you parents as well.
