PHILIPPINES NATIONAL ARTISTS FOR 2009

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has conferred the Order of National Artists under Proclamations 1823-1839 to seven individuals.

Manuel Urbano a.k.a Manuel Conde (Film and Broadcast)
Lazaro Francisco (Literature)
Federico Aguilar Alcuz (Visual Arts, Painting, Sculpture and Mixed Media)
Cecilla Guidote-Alvarez (Theater)
Magno Jose “Carlo” Caparas (Visual Arts and Film)
Francisco Manosa (Architecture)
Jose “Pitoy” Moreno (Fashion Design)

The title is given to a Filipino for having made significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts.

There have been rumors on the selection of  national artist this year because some did not made it some are even not included in the list.  One name that was included was Dolphy.  They said that Dolphy should have been included in the list of National Artist.  He had also made significant contributions to the development arts and he have made impact to his fellow Filipino through his ingenius acting.  He have been entertaining many years now and still he is entertaining us all.  I think he should be awarded this title as well.

SIDE THOUGHTS

  • Overcoming fights starts with forgiveness. All of us have faults and all of us hurt others sometimes. This is human, and holding grudges only hurts the one who holds it.

  • Jesus apparition on a frying pan.  Recently, Toby Elles from Lancaster, England and a 22-year-old brilliantly left the stove on after he was done cooking and after he took a quick boozey-snoozey, he realized his error and rushed to the stove.  Lo and behold, there was Jesus Christ, looking back at him with burnt eye of grease from the frying pan.

  • Love isn’t a fairytale, it isn’t perfect, and it doesn’t always come easy. But it is something that we should hold on to for the rest of our lives, because it’s the only thing that’s worth fighting for.

  • Hero: someone we admire. Someone we look up to. Someone who gives us hope. Not a myth, or an icon, or a legend- someone solid, genuine and real. An ordinary person who does extraordinary things. A hero picks us up when we are down. Believes in us before we believe in ourselves. Inspires us to expand and embrace what’s possible. Helps us realize that we can be heroes, too - Kobi Yamada

  • Devil’s Pool - a small lagoon, enclosed by rocks, on the edge of one of the biggest, most beautiful waterfalls in the world, Victoria Falls. Set on Livingstone Island, at a height of 103 meters, Devil’s Pool is definitely one of the most surreal locations on Earth
