LUNTIAN BAGS
filed in GREEN on Nov.10, 2008
Luntian Bags is another fashionable bag that uses recycled material like the bag made from newspaper. Luntian Bags are reusable bags made of canvas that come in different designs and sizes. The purpose of the bags is to help reduce plastic bag pollution by using reusable bags instead of wasting plastic ones. These bags are stylish, earth-friendly and carry a message. So for your next trip to the grocery or mall, use BYOB or “bring your own bag.”
Luntian (lún-tee-an) means green in Filipino. Basically Luntian Bag means Green Bag. Now these bags are products of a livelihood program in San Teodoro, Mabini, Batangas, where Ichay Bulaong and her husband (persons behind these idea) have chosen where to manufacture the bags. During weekdays, you could see Ichay, her husband, another “corporate warrior,” and her two daughters in San Teodoro, Mabini, Batangas.
The idea came from a Time article Ichay read last april – “Every year, more than 500 billion plastic bags are distributed, and less than 3% of those bags are recycled. They are typically made of polyethylene and can take up to 1,000 years to biodegrade in landfills that emit harmful greenhouse gases.”
“Reducing your contribution to plastic-bag pollution is as simple as using a cloth bag (or one made of biodegradable plant-based materials) instead of wasting plastic ones. For your next trip to the grocery store, BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag).”
With these statements, Ichay came out with Luntian Bags. And they say On your next grocery errand, say no to plastic bags and bring a Luntian Bag instead.
With Luntian Bags, Ichay says she’s able to fulfill her share in taking care of the environment and help run a livelihood program in San Teodoro.
