It is almost summer here in the Philippines and that would also mean there would be frequent summer escapades like going into the beach, visiting relatives in the provinces, or even just ordinary road trips to far places.   The problem with this kind of long trips is not the distance but the danger of the trip, especially if you are going to be Driving with children.  Children on the backs, according to study is the number one cause of driver distraction.  So, keeping the kids entertained at the back entertained would make the trip more safer.

The Daily Record discussed the How to Keep Bored Back Seat Kids Entertained and they suggested the following:

  1. Bring Entertainment stuffs like Sing Along CDs or playing Audio Books so they would not have to read books which could cause car sickness.
  2. Recommended time of travel would be during the night or early morning as this is the time where children sleeps.  So, be sure to bring along some pillows,blankets and other stuffs to make the back seat a sleep time environment.
  3. Play classic games during the trip like car choosing, find the word, or other games that everyone could enjoy.
  4. Always bring food and drinks so as to avoid the kids being irritated because they are hungry or thirsty.
  5. Plan regular breaks or stops for eating, toilet stops, gas station, leg stretching, or even sight seeing.
  6. Always make sure the kids at the back seat are always comfortable so checking the temperature and addressing some discomforts would avoid irritations on the trip.

There is one more tip I found over at The Telegraph how to travel with children and is very much useful for I am using it on my kids and that is bring along with you an IPad, personal DVDs, PSP, or any mobile gadgets they could bring with them and this would surely make them entertained for a long period.  Just make sure to bring a mobile charger so as to avoid getting low bat.

Safety travel to our point of destination is everyone’s main concern during family trips.  Keeping our kids entertained and not bored over long family travels would make our journey enjoyable and safer.  And always remember to get an insurance so you, your family and your car will be insured.
