ACIDSTONE AT NO HEROICS 2

Acidstone rock the stage last Friday August 21, 2009 at Bela Bar in P. Guevarra St., San Juan.  The event was titled “No Heroics 2 – Slackers Reunite.”  Acidstone was joined by 4 other bands so the night was filled with music.  They do not know when was the last time Acidstone played, as far as we remember it was last March during the Acidstone @ Bela Bar or June during a gig at MagNet and there is still one more gig after that and I think I was not there.  Well they are not sure but it was surely a long time ago.

Acidstone played originals songs like Beer, Kapatid, Pare Pare, Bagong Buwan and Halika.  They also played some cover songs like War Pigs (the remake version by Faith no More, God of Thunder by KISS, Nadapa sa Harina by Juan dela Cruz Band,  and Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd.  And because this gig was done on August 21 which is a Ninoy Aquino Day, they also did the song Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo with a matching Cory Aquino shirt by Angel, the vocalist.

I said to Angel, why Cory, it is Ninoy Aquino Day?  He just said that he could not find a short of Ninoy so Cory will do.  Well the shirt work and it was a hit.  Haahahahaha.  He really did bought a shirt.

Acidstone now has three guitarist from the previous two which is composed of PJ and Tim.  The new member is Jeff which is shown on the image on the left.  Archie, the drummer said that Jeff was once the Best guitarist and vocalist in their school Battle of the Bands.  Nice one Jeff.  And Archie quoted a line that Jeff told to the crowd while performing on that Battle of the Band night  “Ito para sa mga taong wala dito pero dapat nandito.”  In english “This is for those who are not here but are supposed to be her.”  Hahahahaha… EMO Shit Jeff.. that one made me laughing.  Jeff would be joining Acidstone for the next re-recording of their new original songs.

This is Paul, the ever greatest and one of the original guitarist of Acidstone.  He was on the event so they invited him over to jam with them for the final song.  Jeff kindly lend his guitar to Paul.  They did a cover song titled Giyang by Razorback.  Paul left the band because of schedule conflicts that time.  Well surely Acidstone missed playing with him.

As for Tim, luckily he brought two guitar.  Both are custom to suit his playing style.  One is a telecaster and the other one a flying v.  See image below to see his flying v guitar.  His hands easily aches if he would play small neck guitars.  His telecaster sound dry and thin on the amplifiers even with the aid of his multi-effects so he has no choice but to use his amazing flying v.

As for PJ, the most handsome of them all.  Hahahahahaha.. the other guitarist..  Well this is his first time to use the RP250 Digitech Effects which was given to him by a friend.  This is also the first time he use such effects because before he was just using a Blues Driver Effects Pedal.  Well, I think all his stuff on playing was all given to him.  His white limited series Fernando guitar was given by his bandmates, his guitar strap was a gift from Archie with the words Acidstone on it.  I know his guitar case is also given to him by a friend where he bought his old guitar.

Well the other man Adrian, was still smooth on his pounding bass riffs.  Well enjoy the additional pics below to get a preview of Acidstone during this night.  If I have to get hold on to the videos, I will post them as well here.

SIDE THOUGHTS

  • Love isn’t a fairytale, it isn’t perfect, and it doesn’t always come easy. But it is something that we should hold on to for the rest of our lives, because it’s the only thing that’s worth fighting for.

  • Hero: someone we admire. Someone we look up to. Someone who gives us hope. Not a myth, or an icon, or a legend- someone solid, genuine and real. An ordinary person who does extraordinary things. A hero picks us up when we are down. Believes in us before we believe in ourselves. Inspires us to expand and embrace what’s possible. Helps us realize that we can be heroes, too - Kobi Yamada

  • Devil’s Pool - a small lagoon, enclosed by rocks, on the edge of one of the biggest, most beautiful waterfalls in the world, Victoria Falls. Set on Livingstone Island, at a height of 103 meters, Devil’s Pool is definitely one of the most surreal locations on Earth

  • Enchanted Well or Poco Encantado.  Located in Chapada Diamantina National Park in Brazil.  - This giant sunken pool is 120 feet deep and the water is so transparent the rocks and ancient tree trunks are visible on the bottom. Access to this pond is highly controlled for environmental protection of its rare and delicate ecosystem.

  • I don’t believe in fate or destiny. I believe in various degrees of hatred, paranoia, and abandonment. However much of that gets heaped upon you doesn’t matter - it’s only a matter of how much you can take and what it does to you — Henry Rollins
