Turn your laptop into a wireless hot spot – If you’ve only got one wired ethernet connection and a room full of internet-starved laptop users, you can quickly turn your laptop into a wireless hot spot without any extra software. CNET TV has a video tutorial that demonstrates how you can turn Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Mac OS X laptops into wireless broadcasting hot spots. CNET even shows how you can add security to the wireless signal to keep intruders out. The process is painless in Vista and OS X, but requires a few steps in XP. DIY – boost your wi-fi signal – This is a video showing a do-it-yourself on boosting your wi-fi signal. Instead of buying a cashing out a lot of money just to extend your wi-fi signal, try watching the video by one intrepid video blogger and do it by yourself. If you’re not afraid of a soldering gun or taking apart your router antenna, a small amount of copper wire, a drinking straw, a wood screw and black marker should get you (according to the video creator) roughly twice the range and power.

Add tabs to Windows Explorer – Windows only: Freeware application QT TabBar adds a lot of useful functionality to Windows Explorer, most notably a tabbed interface.If you’re used to several Explorer Windows cluttering up your desktop, the tabbed addition is a godsend. That said, QT TabBar offers a lot of other small tweaks, like the drop-down preview you see in the screenshot and few toolbar buttons that add entries like “Recently Closed” or favorites. It’s a little peculiar to set up, so be sure to check out the Manual.html file in the download for install instructions. QT TabBar is free to download, Windows only, requires .NET 2.0. Hide Windows Application with Watchcat Watchcat is free Windows utility that lets you hide running programs from view. It basically minimizes selected programs and removes their entries from the Windows taskbar and Alt+Tab menu. It won’t close them; it won’t save you any RAM, but it will clear up some screen real space while you let a program run in the background. Much more like Windows Hidie.  This one is useful if you do not want your boss to see all your open programs or you do not want him to know your wasting office hours by browsing the internet. Or maybe you are annoyed with the windows media player showing in the taskbar like me.  Try Watchcat to see it for yourself.

List all the drivers you’ve installed on your Windows machine – bDriver+list SOME COMPUTER STUFF TIPS y typing driverquery from the command line (start->Run->cmd->OK). This works under Windows XP, 2003, and Vista systems; Windows Vista Place states that there is even more information to glean from this simple program: remote system direction, output, and information about signed drivers, among others.
